Best IPTV Apps in 2026: TiViMate vs Smarters vs Smart IPTV vs IBO Player

The best IPTV app depends on the device in front of you. On a Firestick, Android TV or Android box it is TiViMate. On an iPhone, Apple TV, Samsung or LG TV, or a PC, it is IPTV Smarters Pro, because TiViMate does not exist there. On a Samsung or LG set without a stick, Smart IPTV is the lightweight alternative. Those three cover almost everyone; IBO Player, XCIPTV, iPlayTV and VLC fill the gaps. We installed all seven on the devices below and this is what each one is actually good at.

One thing to fix in your head before reading on, because it causes half the confusion in our support chats: none of these apps has any channels. They are players, like a web browser. You add a subscription such as Titan IPTV with a login and the app shows whatever that login gives it. A free app plus no subscription is a blank screen; a paid app plus a bad subscription is an expensive blank screen.

The seven apps compared

1. IPTV Smarters Pro: the app that runs everywhere

IPTV Smarters Pro is the most installed IPTV player in the world for one reason: it is on every platform, and it is free. The login screen asks for the three Xtream details, the guide loads, and the home screen has three enormous tiles for Live TV, Movies and Series that a grandparent can operate. It is the app we send to new customers by default, because we know it will work on whatever they own. Our Smarters Pro setup guide covers every platform.

Its weakness is the living room. The guide is a list rather than a grid, the remote navigation on a Firestick takes more clicks than TiViMate, and the interface looks like a phone app scaled up, which is what it is. On Samsung and LG TVs the store version is a slightly older build with fewer settings. In our test the EPG loaded in about 40 seconds on the Firestick and about a minute on the Samsung; channel changes took one to two seconds.

Choose it if: you have an Apple device, a Samsung or LG TV, a PC, or several different devices and want one app on all of them. Skip it if: you have an Android box and watch sport, where TiViMate is simply better.

2. TiViMate: the best app in the living room

TiViMate looks and behaves like the guide on a good cable box. Channels sit in a grid against a timeline, the preview plays in the corner while you browse, favourites and groups are a click away, and the whole thing is built for a remote rather than a touchscreen. Our EPG loaded in about 25 seconds and channel changes were under a second on the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. It is what most of our customers move to after a month on Smarters, and it is what we use at home. The TiViMate setup guide walks through it.

Two limits. First, it is Android only: Android TV, Google TV, Fire OS and Android boxes. There is no iPhone, Apple TV, Samsung or LG version and there never has been; the apps called TiviMato, Tivimax and similar in Apple’s and Samsung’s stores are made by other developers and are not the same product. Second, the good parts cost money. The free version plays one playlist with the guide; Premium, bought through the TiViMate Companion app on a phone at $9.99 a year or a one-off lifetime price in the high thirties, adds recording, catch-up, multi-view of up to four channels and use on up to five devices, with a 7-day trial.

Choose it if: you have a Firestick, Shield, Chromecast with Google TV or any Android box, and especially if you watch sport. Skip it if: your device is not Android.

3. Smart IPTV: the Samsung and LG shortcut

Smart IPTV, also written SIPTV, is the lightweight option for Samsung and LG TVs that do not have a stick attached. It has no login screen at all. You install it from the TV’s store, note the MAC address it shows, and upload your M3U link to that address on the Smart IPTV website. The channels and guide appear on the next launch. It is quick, stable and uses almost no memory, which matters on a 2017 TV. After a 7-day trial it charges a small one-time activation per TV, paid on the same website. Its limits are the flip side of its simplicity: no Xtream login, limited catch-up, and the playlist has to be uploaded again if the app is reinstalled. Do not confuse it with SS IPTV, a different app with a similar name and a similar upload method.

Choose it if: you have a Samsung or LG TV, no stick, and want the simplest possible setup. Skip it if: you want catch-up or a login you can type on the TV.

4. IBO Player: the multi-platform paid option

IBO Player runs on Samsung, LG, Android, Fire OS and iOS, and activates by MAC address like Smart IPTV but also accepts an Xtream login. It has a cleaner guide than Smarters on smart TVs and supports catch-up. It charges a yearly fee per device after a trial, which is its main drawback next to the free Smarters, and the activation website is occasionally slow. A reasonable choice for a household that wants the same look on a Samsung TV and a Firestick.

5. XCIPTV: the free Android alternative

XCIPTV is an open-source-based Android and iOS player with Xtream and M3U login, a decent guide, recording and a choice of playback engines, which helps on the odd channel that stutters in other apps. The free version shows ads on launch. It is the one we suggest when a Firestick user does not want to pay for TiViMate but finds Smarters too plain.

6. iPlayTV: the Apple TV favourite

iPlayTV is a paid, one-time-purchase app for Apple TV, iPhone and iPad with Xtream and M3U support, a proper grid guide and catch-up. On the Apple TV 4K it is the closest thing to TiViMate that Apple owners can get, and the guide is noticeably faster than Smarters on tvOS. 7. VLC: the universal fallback

VLC is not really an IPTV app, but it opens an M3U link on any computer, phone or TV box and plays the streams. No guide, no favourites, no catch-up, but it is free, it is everywhere, and it is the fastest way to prove that a login works before you blame an app. We use it in support constantly. Which app for which device

Is the IPTV player free?

Usually. IPTV Smarters Pro, XCIPTV, VLC and the free tier of TiViMate cost nothing. Smart IPTV and IBO Player charge a small per-TV fee after a trial. TiViMate Premium is $9.99 a year or a lifetime licence. iPlayTV is a one-time purchase. What you are always paying for separately is the subscription that supplies the channels, which at Titan IPTV starts at $15 a month or $75 a year on the pricing page. Searches for “IPTV Smarters Pro subscription” or “TiViMate subscription” are really searches for that: a service that works in the app.

What the app cannot fix

People switch apps to cure buffering, and it almost never works. The app decodes what the server sends. If a channel freezes in Smarters it will freeze in TiViMate, because the packets are arriving late from the server or through your Wi-Fi, not from the player. What an app can change is the decoder: switching from hardware to software decoding, or the other way, fixes stuttering on a few channels whose encoding the device dislikes.
